Lab mice
By AlThe last time I posted I said I’d mention more about what happened yesterday but I’m afraid that I got so caught up in Lost that I never got round to it, especially when watching Season 2 of Numb3rs inbetween episodes aswell.
Anyways, this one goes back to what I was saying a few posts ago about immature behaviour. Basically, I managed to electrocute my dad with 22 volts of electricity.
Twice.
This month’s issue of Fast Car Magazine comes with a “Shock Fob”. Whilst I’ve never bought the magazine before and probably never intend to ever again, the shock fob was too awesome a freebie to pass up. Basically it looks like one of those key fobs that you have to lock/unlock your car remotely. Except with this one if you push the button, 22 volts of electricity flow through your system.
I told my dad that I’d bought a new one and that it was really cool and that he should try it out because it made a great sound. So he did. The fantastic sound that it made was him screaming as he got electrocuted.
Now you know those mice that are used in experiments? Where they have to choose the cheese, but the scientists shock the mice on particular pieces of cheese to condition them into learning which ones to go for and what not to go for during memory experiments?
Yeah, my dad’s dumber than a mouse.
There’s a metal plate on the back and the idea is that your finger needs to be on that to complete the circuit when you push the button on the front. I held the sides and pushed the button and said “see, it’s not that bad, give it another go.” So he picked it up and sure enough, electrocuted himself again, only this time throwing it half-way across the room. I think the shock was bigger for him second time round.
I don’t think he’ll ever learn.
This afternoon he asked me to go and buy some milk for him because he had guests coming round. So I said “Sure, as long as you push this button again” and after a lot of flinching, he finally gave in and did it, thus electrocuting himself a third time.
Either he’ll learn that it’s just a stupid thing to do, or he’ll learn to cope with multiple shocks. Either way, I think that until either of those happen I’m still going to be able to have a lot of immature fun.
But still, I don’t think that he’ll ever learn properly.
I’m not really a bad person, honest….
