Steve
General, News & Updates By Al - May 7th, 2006You have NO idea how many times I have attempted to write this post. It’s not been a case of writing a first draft and then scrapping it to write a second draft. No, it’s been actual attempts at writing anything at all. There have even been days where I’ve not even made it to the writing section of the site.
Some of you possibly find it hard living without any new posts on this site. One of our readers, Lea, has once referred to herself as a choadaholic. If there are any other choadaholics then I apologise for any stress caused, although I would like to take the opportunity to point out that because the word ‘choad’ also means ‘penis’, calling yourself a choadaholic could be seen as a bad thing. Especially for guys.
Which brings me onto podcasting (bare with me, you’ll see). Podcasts (which are essentially radio shows over the internet) should be starting towards the end of next week. For a while (approx 6 minutes) I was playing around with the idea of renaming these to ‘choadcasts’. I think it’s safe to say that it’s best to stick with the general accepted term of podcast.
Anyways, whilst you guys might think it’s tough living without new posts – it’s far worse for me to not write any posts. Seriously. Allow me to explain.
Throught the course of a day, things happen. Life has taught me this little fact over the years. Out of all these things, there are a few important ones that I wish to write about. Sometimes there are more personal ones which are too personal to go on this site either in regards to myself or people I know. But out of everything else, I decide which things I write about. This leads to a problem.
If I don’t write about those things, then they get put on hold until the next day. But on the next day more things happen and therefore there are far more things to write about. This builds up and up and up. Then I’m faced with far too much to write about and not enough time to write about it. And then I get to this point where I have to decide what it is I’m going to write about.
I’m also juggling a lot of things at the moment. I’m working on this website, another website, multiple websites at work, preparing for the podcast, creating a DVD of my mom’s 50th birthday, etc etc etc. So life’s quite busy at the moment. Plus I’m starting my driving lessons again to re-take my driving test since having my licence revoked.
I’m also in the process of starting up my own business.
Perhaps the first thing I should mention is in regards to the last post. Lots of people mistook my reference to “Steve” as some sort of homosexual love fest. This is not the case. Steve is the name I’ve given my Apple Mac Mini. There is a reason he’s called Steve, but I’m not going to go into that right now (I’ll save it for the podcast).
Steve is great. Steve runs brilliantly. Steve has never crashed. I’ve been able to do far more with Steve than Woz (the name of my PC). Ahhh, a couple of you are starting to figure out the naming convention. For the rest of you; podcast! There is one problem with Steve though that happened yesterday. He won’t take discs anymore. After 20 seconds of high-speed whirring, he violently spits out any disc (be it cd or dvd) that I put in him. So sometime next week I’m going to take it to a certified apple engineer and get the drive replaced.
One thing that’s got to be said though – when I called up Apple’s support line – there was NO waiting. I’ve never phoned up a call centre and never had to wait. That was truly astounding. They were really helpful aswell. Apple’s tech support get a definate thumbs up from me!
Another company that gets the thumbs up is Shloer (obviously). They stood true to their word but instead of sending me a voucher like last time, this time they sent me an entire bottle!!! I still have the bottle. I’m thinking of keeping it for prosperity. Especially once I’ve looked up what that word means.
This month also marks the first adverts on TV for Shloer. I’m not sure which channel the ads are airing on, but keep an eye out for them. The Shloer website is also going under a re-design at the moment aswell so I don’t know about you but I’m definately looking forward to seeing what changes are going to be made there.
Anyways, that’s all for tonight. Expect far more posts next week along with the first of many podcasts. You will be able to download them manually via this website or use some software to download them automatically (we recommend iTunes, but there are alternatives such as Juice, iPodder and Cast Podder [linux-only]). If you’re unfamiliar with podcasting, you can listen to them on your computer or transfer them to your iPod (or alternative MP3 player) or even to your mobile/cell phone.
Oh yeah, and by the way… I’ve got legs.

Slipped in snow. Hurt my leg. Hobbled to the tube station. Missed my train. Damn you snow!
Guus Hiddink for England manager....
This is awesome:
Wow, @zavvi is pretty useless, they sent a £70 item wrapped in a thin bag! Let's see if their customer service is any good.

Hi Al,
Just a quick note to let you know the new Shloer TV ad has its first airing on Tuesday 16th May on Channel 4 during the episode of Lost. Watch our for it – we think it’s great! (not biased at all!)
Thanks,
Zoe
