A few get cancelled before then, and some (such as Friends and Stargate: SG-1) go on for almost twice that amount. Personally (as everyone is entitled to his/her opinion), I love how Smallville has changed. It's nice to see these huge story-arcs which are already leading towards Clark becoming Superman, and then it's also great to go back to the early seasons for the single episodes where Clark's still discovering new powers (compared to now where he's refining them) and the freak-of-the-week. But overall, whilst I loved the early seasons at the time, they just don't compare to the last two. I can't wait for season 6. :D The majority of shows have a 5-7 season run.
